Used data center equipment

How do I sell power and cooling equipment coming out of a data center?

Send us the unit and its record. A unit record is five things: nameplate photographs, hours, service history, location, and the date the unit is available. That is what a buyer is shown, so it is what we ask for first.

This is for the operator running the refresh or the closure, the contractor doing the decommissioning, and the asset disposition firm holding what comes out. Equipment moves to named commercial buyers in the United States.

What to send us

Start with the nameplate photographs. Ratings, voltages and identifiers come off the nameplate. A photograph settles them without a back and forth.

Then the hours, the service history, the location and the date available. Location and date matter for the removal work as much as for the match.

Test reports go with the class of equipment:

If a report does not exist yet, say so when you send the unit. The record is what goes out with the quote, so it is assembled before a quote goes to a buyer.

The two deal forms from your side

Every deal runs in one of two forms. Which one applies is stated in writing before any introduction is made.

As an agent, we work under a written commission agreement. In that form we are not the seller of record. You sell to the named buyer we bring you.

On a back-to-back sale, we are the seller of record to the buyer. That form is funded by the buyer's deposit.

We hold no yard and no stock. A unit stays with you while it is being quoted.

Who de-installs, rigs and freights

Licensed contractors. De-installation, rigging and freight are quoted line by line with the unit. We do not perform that work ourselves.

Two items run ahead of the disconnect. Refrigerant is recovered by an EPA Section 608 certified technician before a cooling unit comes apart. An older oil-filled transformer has its laboratory PCB result before it is quoted.

Send the unit through the equipment form. You can also write to requests@gatewellusa.com with the word equipment in the subject line, or call (213) 558-2728.

Class pages: used generators, used UPS systems and PDUs, used transformers and switchgear, used cooling equipment. The section index is used data center power and cooling equipment.

Questions

What do you need on a unit before you can work it?

Nameplate photographs, hours, service history, location and the date available. Test reports for the class come with it.

Do you buy the equipment from me?

On a back-to-back sale we are the seller of record to the buyer. That form is funded by the buyer's deposit. On the other form we work as an agent under a written commission agreement. You are told in writing which one applies before any introduction is made.

Do you take my equipment into a warehouse?

No. We hold no yard and no stock. A unit stays where it is until it is sold and moved.

How are de-installation, rigging and freight handled?

They are quoted line by line with the unit rather than folded into one number. Licensed contractors perform the work. We do not perform it ourselves.

What if a load bank test or oil analysis has not been done?

Tell us when you send the unit. The condition record goes out with the quote, so what is missing is arranged before the quote goes to a buyer.

Who sees my name?

The buyer we introduce you to. Sellers and buyers are named to each other in the deal. We do not put the names of sellers, buyers or units on this site.

Send a requirement or a unit We reply within two working days, with a quote or with the questions we need answered first.
