What should a used data center generator set come with before I buy it?
A used generator set is quoted with its record. That record is built on the unit being offered, not on the model in general.
The record for a generator set is fixed: nameplate and emissions label photographs, the hour meter photograph, the service log, and the load bank test report. Those items go out with the quote.
What the record shows
The nameplate photograph carries the identifiers the manufacturer put on the set. The emissions label is photographed with it. What a particular label reads goes on the quote for that unit.
The hour meter is photographed, so the reading reaches you as it stands on the set. The service log is the history the seller has kept. The load bank test report is the report on the set under test.
Beyond the record, a unit reaches us from the seller with its hours, service history, location and the date it is available. Sets come out of data center refreshes, closures and decommissioning.
Where the set will run
California air districts set their own permitting for stationary diesel engines. A generator set is matched to the rules of the district where it will run before it is quoted.
That is why the requirement asks for the delivery state and the site. Tell us where the set is going at the start rather than after a unit has been picked.
How the deal is written
Every deal runs in one of two forms. In the first, we work as an agent under a written commission agreement. In the second, we are the seller of record on a back-to-back sale funded by the buyer's deposit. Which form applies is stated in writing before any introduction is made.
We hold no yard and no stock. A set stays with the seller who owns it while it is being quoted.
Getting the set out and to site
De-installation, rigging and freight are quoted line by line with the unit. Licensed contractors perform that work. We do not perform it ourselves.
Send the requirement through the equipment form: class, rating, voltage, fuel, delivery state, date needed. You can also write to requests@gatewellusa.com with the word equipment in the subject line, or call (213) 558-2728.
Other classes: used UPS systems and PDUs, used transformers and switchgear, used cooling equipment. The section index is used data center power and cooling equipment.
