What do I get with a used UPS system or PDU before I commit?
A used UPS is quoted with its condition record. Three items make that record: the condition and run-time report, the battery date codes, and the load bank test. They are taken on the unit being offered and go out with the quote.
PDUs and busway are quoted on the unit record the seller supplies. Nameplate photographs, hours, service history, location and the date available come with the unit before it is matched to anyone.
The record for a UPS
The condition and run-time report covers the state of the system and its run time. The battery date codes are read off the batteries in the unit. The load bank test is the test on the system itself.
The codes go out with the quote rather than on request. A buyer has the age of the batteries in hand before a decision is made.
PDUs and busway
PDUs and busway move with the same unit record every class carries here: nameplate photographs, hours, service history, location, date available. Ratings and voltages come off the nameplate in those photographs.
All of it is used equipment, out of data center refreshes, closures and decommissioning.
How the deal is written
Every deal runs in one of two forms. In the first, we work as an agent under a written commission agreement. In the second, we are the seller of record on a back-to-back sale funded by the buyer's deposit. Which form applies is stated in writing before any introduction is made.
We hold no yard and no stock. We match named commercial sellers to named commercial buyers.
Removal and freight
De-installation, rigging and freight are quoted line by line with the unit. Licensed contractors perform that work. We do not perform it ourselves.
Send the requirement through the equipment form: class, rating, voltage, delivery state, date needed. You can also write to requests@gatewellusa.com with the word equipment in the subject line, or call (213) 558-2728.
Other classes: used generators, used transformers and switchgear, used cooling equipment. The section index is used data center power and cooling equipment.
Questions
What comes with a quote on a used UPS?
The condition and run-time report, the battery date codes and the load bank test. That is the condition record for this class.
Do I see the battery date codes before I buy?
Yes. The date codes are part of the record that goes out with the quote.
What record comes with a PDU or a busway run?
The unit record from the seller: nameplate photographs, hours, service history, location and the date available.
Do you hold UPS systems in stock?
No. We hold no yard and no stock. A unit stays with the seller who owns it while it is being quoted.
Who de-installs and ships the system?
Licensed contractors. De-installation, rigging and freight are quoted line by line with the unit. We do not perform that work ourselves.
I have UPS systems coming out of a facility. Do you buy them?
We work either as an agent under a written commission agreement or as the seller of record on a back-to-back sale funded by the buyer's deposit. The page on selling decommissioned data center equipment sets out what to send us and how each form works from the seller's side.
