What testing comes with a used transformer or switchgear lineup?
A used transformer is quoted with a test record. That record is the nameplate photograph, the oil analysis and the turns ratio test, plus a laboratory PCB result for older oil-filled units.
Switchgear and breakers carry a record of their own. It is the acceptance test report to ANSI/NETA standards, taken on the equipment being offered.
The record for a transformer
The nameplate photograph carries the identifiers and ratings the manufacturer put on the unit. The oil analysis reports on the oil in that transformer. The turns ratio test is the test on the windings.
An older oil-filled unit is quoted with its PCB test result. That result comes from a laboratory, on a sample from the unit itself. It is part of the record before the quote goes to a buyer.
Transformers reach us from sellers with hours, service history, location and the date available. The equipment is used, out of data center refreshes, closures and decommissioning.
The record for switchgear and breakers
Switchgear and breakers are quoted with an acceptance test report to ANSI/NETA standards. The report covers the lineup or the breaker on offer, not the type in general.
The seller's unit record comes with it: nameplate photographs, hours, service history, location and the date available.
How the deal is written
Every deal runs in one of two forms. In the first, we work as an agent under a written commission agreement. In the second, we are the seller of record on a back-to-back sale funded by the buyer's deposit. Which form applies is stated in writing before any introduction is made.
We hold no yard and no stock. We match named commercial sellers to named commercial buyers.
Removal, rigging and freight
De-installation, rigging and freight are quoted line by line with the unit. Licensed contractors perform that work. We do not perform it ourselves.
Send the requirement through the equipment form: class, rating, voltage, delivery state, date needed. You can also write to requests@gatewellusa.com with the word equipment in the subject line, or call (213) 558-2728.
Other classes: used generators, used UPS systems and PDUs, used cooling equipment. The section index is used data center power and cooling equipment.
Questions
What comes with a quote on a used transformer?
The nameplate photograph, the oil analysis and the turns ratio test. For an older oil-filled unit, a laboratory PCB result comes with them.
Why is there a PCB result on some units and not others?
The laboratory result is the item that goes with an older oil-filled transformer. It is in hand before that unit is quoted.
What testing comes with switchgear and breakers?
An acceptance test report to ANSI/NETA standards, taken on the equipment being offered.
Do you hold transformers or switchgear in stock?
No. We hold no yard and no stock. A unit stays with the seller who owns it while it is being quoted.
Who takes the lineup out and moves it?
Licensed contractors. De-installation, rigging and freight are quoted line by line with the unit. We do not perform that work ourselves.
I am decommissioning a room and have transformers and gear to sell. Where do I start?
On the page about selling decommissioned data center equipment. It lists what to send us on each unit and how the two deal forms work from the seller's side.
