How is used data center cooling equipment quoted?
Cooling equipment is quoted on two things: the unit record the seller supplies, and the refrigerant record. The refrigerant record is the type read off the nameplate, together with the recovery record of an EPA Section 608 certified technician.
We broker chillers, CRAH and CRAC units, cooling towers and coolant distribution units. All of it is used, out of data center refreshes, closures and decommissioning.
What the record contains
The refrigerant type comes from the nameplate on the unit being offered. It is stated with the quote. Refrigerant is also one of the fields a requirement gives us at the start.
Refrigerant is recovered by a certified technician before a unit is disconnected. The recovery record of that EPA Section 608 certified technician goes with the unit.
Alongside the refrigerant record sits the seller's unit record: nameplate photographs, hours, service history, location and the date available.
Matching a unit to a requirement
A requirement states the class, the rating, the voltage, the refrigerant, the delivery state and the date needed. A unit comes to us with its own record. We match named commercial sellers to named commercial buyers in the United States.
We hold no yard and no stock. A unit stays with the seller who owns it while it is being quoted.
How the deal is written
Every deal runs in one of two forms. In the first, we work as an agent under a written commission agreement. In the second, we are the seller of record on a back-to-back sale funded by the buyer's deposit. Which form applies is stated in writing before any introduction is made.
Removal, rigging and freight
De-installation, rigging and freight are quoted line by line with the unit. Licensed contractors perform that work. We do not perform it ourselves. On a cooling unit, recovery of the refrigerant comes before the disconnect. The technician who performs it is certified under EPA Section 608.
